The City of Alma is a Council-Manager form of government. This type of government combines the strong political leadership of elected officials with the strong managerial experience of an appointed City Manager. This form of government is a representative system where all power is concentrated in the elected council and where the council hires a professionally trained manager to oversee the day-to-day operations.
The Mayor and Council are the Legislative body and they are the decision makers of our community. They approve the budget and determine the tax rate. They focus on the community's goals, major projects, and long-term planning. The Mayor is elected at-large and all five council members are elected by the district that he or she represents. The Mayor and City Council meet on the first Monday of each month at 6PM in the Bacon County Courthouse.
