Have a Yard Sale

The City of Alma does have a Yard Sale Ordinance in its Code of Ordinances. The City of Alma adopted the ordinance in May of 2009. Listed below are some frequently asked questions that apply to the ordinance.

Can I have a yard sale in the City of Alma?
Yes

Do I have to obtain a permit to have a yard sale?
No, if the yard sale is at your own residence. Yes, if the yard will be on someone else's property.

Is there a fee for a yard sale permit?
No

How do I obtain a yard sale permit?
First, a signed letter of written permission by the property owner where the yard sale is going to be held must be obtained. The letter must include the date(s) of the yard sale, the address of the yard sale, and the signature of the property owner. The letter has to be brought by the City of Alma Administrative Office at 502 West 12th Street, Suite 104. A permit will then be issued if the required information is submitted.
