Water System
The City of Alma operates a water system that is permitted by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division to pump 1.5 million gallons per day. The City's water system covers 100% of the city and has 2,137 customers. The water system consists of approximately 40 miles of water lines. Alma's water is drawn from the Upper Floridan Aquifer. The City of Alma routinely tests its water system for various types of contaminants and submits its findings to GA EPD monthly. The system is in compliance with all GA EPD regulations and standards.

The City of Alma encourages its citizens to adhere to GA EPD's outdoor water use restrictions. Even numbered addresses may water on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 12 midnight to 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight. Odd numbered addresses may water on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays from 12 midnight to 10 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 12 midnight. Outdoor watering is prohibited on Fridays.
The City of Alma is a member of the Georgia Rural Water Association.
Wastewater Treatment
The City of Alma operates a wastewater treatment system that is permitted by the Gerogia Environmental Protection Division to treat 750,000 gallons per day. The City's system covers 100% of the city and has 2,137 customers. The system consists of approximately 35 miles of sewer lines. The system has 16 pump stations. Currently, the City of Alma is planning to expand its treatment capacity from 750,000 gallons per day to 1.5 million gallons per day.
