District 4 Councilperson

Mr. Holton was first elected District 4 Council Representative in 1996. Since he began serving on City Council, he has earned Certificates of Recognition, Achievement, and Excellence from the Carl L. Vinson Institute of Government at the University of Georgia. Mr. Holton also graduated from the Carl L. Vinson Institute of Government Leadership Course in 2004. He was elected Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) President in 2006-2007 for the 11th district. Locally, Mr. Holton served on the Housing Authority Board in 1994-1995.

Mr. Holton graduated from Bacon County High School in 1965. After high school, he served in the U.S. Army from 1967 through 1971. He served in Vietnam in 1970-1971. Mr. Holton finished serving in the military and earned his Associates of Science degree from South Georgia College in 1973. He then went on to complete his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University in 1975. Mr. Holton graduated in 1991 from Valdosta State College with a Master of Education in Middle Grades Education.

Mr. Holton recently retired in November of 2008. He is the Commander of the Mason M. Johnston VFW Post #4625. He is also a member of the American Legion Post #69 in Alma. He enjoys reading, fishing, and attending GA Tech athletic events. He is married, has two children, and two grandchildren, who he enjoys spending time with everyday.
